What this means in practice

Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, I receive a small commission from the retailer. You pay exactly the same price — the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket.

Affiliate links are marked with rel="sponsored nofollow" and open in a new tab, as required by the FTC and by Amazon's operating agreement. Product buttons and comparison table links are affiliate links by default. Links to manufacturer documentation, research papers and community forums are not.

What it does not influence

Commission rates do not affect which product wins a comparison, what score it receives, or the order in which products are listed. I frequently recommend the cheaper product, the second-hand option, or no purchase at all — including telling readers plainly when a piece of gear is not worth buying.

I do not accept payment for reviews, and I do not let brands review copy before it is published. If I ever receive a product free of charge, that fact will be stated in the article itself, at the top, not buried at the bottom.

Why there are affiliate links at all

Buying coffee equipment to test is expensive. Affiliate commission is what funds the gear that gets tested and keeps the site free to read, with no paywall and no sponsored posts. If you find the work useful, buying through a link here is the most direct way to support it — and if you would rather not, that is completely fine. The writing is the same either way.
